Real World
Educational Experiential Engagement:
Play & Learn Environments
The Challenge:
Bringing a trusted national broadcast brand into a physical, three-dimensional public space requires a rigorous understanding of safety regulations, material longevity, and environmental scale. The objective was to design high-profile public installations, including a regional PBS KIDS Play Zone and park environmental signage, that would drive community engagement and make educational programming tangible. The core design obstacle was ensuring absolute compliance with strict national brand guidelines while adapting those vector graphics for real-world environmental substrates, wayfinding mechanics, and physical architectural spaces that must withstand public use.
The Integrated Response:
Taking full ownership of the environmental design lifecycle, I served as the principal designer and spatial planner for these high-visibility public installations. I translated standard digital brand systems into immersive, physical environments—developing comprehensive spatial layouts, wayfinding signage, and custom experiential learning touchpoints. Collaborating cross-functionally with municipal departments, education specialists, and marketing teams, I managed the project pipeline from raw 2D conceptual blueprints to final physical fabrication. By choosing durable, standard-compliant substrates and supervising external fabrication contractors, I delivered vibrant, safe community spaces that successfully extended the organization's physical footprint and deepened regional public engagement.
My Role
Principal Spatial Designer: Translated 2D broadcast assets into immersive, physical learning environments, large-scale play zones, and public park trail systems.
Environmental Graphic Designer (EGD): Developed three-dimensional spatial layouts, structural bulkhead graphics, wall wraps, and architectural wayfinding signage.
Technical Production Manager: Specified durable, standard-compliant physical substrates capable of withstanding heavy civic use and weather exposure.
Cross-Functional Liaison: Supervised external fabrication contractors and partnered with municipal departments, education specialists, and marketers from blueprint to installation.
