Pioneering $70,000
in Annual Savings
with a Print-to-Digital Migration
for Public Media

The Challenge:

Transition a legacy public media print publication to digital without alienating an older demographic that relies on physical layout grids while simultaneously reaching younger audiences.

The Integrated Solution:

I owned this project including the conception, execution, and testing. As the sole designer for PBS Michiana, I led the end-to-end digital transformation of our flagship monthly publication. The objective was clear but challenging: completely eliminate unsustainable print and distribution costs without alienating a loyal, legacy viewer base that relies on traditional programming layouts. By re-engineering our master publication pipeline from the ground up, I moved the magazine into an interactive, multi-platform ecosystem that blended downloadable print assets with rich-media digital formats. The result was a seamless cultural transition for our audience that permanently slashed organizational overhead by $70,000 annually.

I also developed a full website version of the magazine which expanded our digital reach and improved the piece with embeddable content, vastly improved mobile legibility, and refined interactivity.

My Role:

  • Creative Director & Strategist: Audited a legacy print distribution model and engineered the transition to a 100% digital, interactive publishing architecture.

  • Digital Publication Designer: Designed interactive, responsive monthly layouts optimized for web-viewports and cross-platform mobile access.

  • Fiscal Asset Manager: Restructured production pipelines to permanently eliminate physical printing and shipping overhead, saving the organization $70,000 annually.

  • Platform & Analytics Administrator: Deployed and managed the digital flipbook engine, verifying link tracking and digital accessibility metrics.
